I want to use imovie and edit and make videos, is there a difference between the two platforms?
There are considerable differences between Mac and iPad.
The Mac currently uses different families of CPU to iPad; macOS is a full pre-emptive multi-tasking operating system.
The iPad Pro is arguably the most powerful tablet computer that is on the market. Unlike Mac, the iPad is designed with a predominantly “touch” User Interface (UI). The iPadOS Operating System offers limited multi-tasking capabilities, but lacks the full multitasking capabilities of the Mac.
Only you can decide if the iPad is suitable for your needs.
If you’ll excuse the pun, you are to some extent comparing Apples and Oranges. iPad is an excellent companion device for Mac (or PC). Whilst iPad Pro is very versatile - and has capabilities lacking in traditional desktop/laptop systems - despite Apple’s creative marketing, iPad is not a true replacement for a Mac/PC.
