Access to ultra-wide 0.5x camera by video calling apps

Why has Apple not provided access or video calling applications like WhatsApp or FaceTime not enabled switching between camera's when using the rear camera?

I find myself in most calls trying to show my surroundings (often indoors), where the ultra-wide lens would make all the difference.

Is this a feature in the making? When might apple provide access to it?
