Apple Mail all my drafts disappeared

I created a lot of drafts in the past few months to go back and complete when I had time. But I've just discovered that they have disappeared on my MacBook. I checked on my iPhone and Mac mini, and they are not there either. Then I looked at iCloud.com on the web, and nope, not there either.

Finally, I opened my iPad, and to my relief, they were all there. However, shockingly, they all started disappearing, one by one, until there were none left. So where are they? What's happened? Can I get them back?

The drafts have disappeared from most of your devices. To confirm, only your drafts are missing? Can you send and receive email with no issues?
