Mouse lag when connected to an external display (with MacBook lid closed)

Device information: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)

Mouse information: Logitech G903

Display information: LG 34-inch ultra-wide

System: macOS Big Sur 11.2.3

Problem:

The cursor has a significant lag when I connect my Mac to the external monitor with the lid closed. But the cursor can move smoothly when I connect to the monitor with the lid open. Mouse is connected to my Mac through a USB-C hub, and the monitor is connected via an HDMI cable. Does anyone have a fix on this? Thank you!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.2

Hi Ryan, thanks for replying! The problem was that every time I connected my mac to the external monitor, the refresh rate would automatically be set to 30Hz, so I had to manually set it back to 60Hz. Now it all works perfectly.

Hi Mike,

We see that your Logitech mouse runs slower with your Mac closed and the use of an external monitor than it does with just using it on the Mac. Have you tried another mouse to see if the behavior persists? Also, does the behavior persist with out the USB-C hub?
