What happened to my downloaded music

I guess it happened after a recent Apple update. But I no longer have a good number of downloaded music. When I try to re-download off of iTunes it tells me I don’t have the original files.

You have to sync them back to the device if that’s how they got on the phone in the first place.

Are your using Apple Music or iTunes Match?

If songs are missing from your music library after you turn on Sync Library - Apple Support

I don’t believe I use either of them. It was after the update before the last one. These songs were some that I uploaded into iTunes from a usb drive. Then brought them to my phone. I have sync enabled. I still even have my old phone 7 plus. And the songs are in that playlist still. 🤦🏻‍♂️
