Connecting Amazon Echo Dot with MBP

I'm traveling and was using the Echo Dot as a speaker for watching Hulu and listening to news. It worked fine for weeks and then quit. On bluetooth, it says it is still connected but the only audio speakers that work is on my MBP. Alexa told me to use the Alexa app to rectify the problem but my computer doesn't have an Alexa app. It's not available on Apple App Store and on Amazon website, it tells me I already have it and there is no options available to download it. So, I tried restarting the computer and unplugging the Echo Dot to reset them both and no dice. I also made three attempt to solve the problem with Amazon's customer support and I keep getting disconnected. They did tell me there is no Alexa app for MBP. Frustrated. I'm about ready to pitch this thing and buy a Home Pod. Anyone with any ideas?
