I presume that the on-screen keyboard is not appearing when expected? Do you have a Bluetooth keyboard?

Whenever you have a Bluetooth keyboard connected to your iPad, the on-screen keyboard is automatically suppressed; the iPad will think that you don’t need the on-screen keyboard as input is expected from the physical Bluetooth keyboard.

Check your Bluetooth settings. Do you see a keyboard listed in the “My Devices”? If so, tap the “i” icon next to the device name, then tap Disconnect.

If you don’t see any Bluetooth devices listed, try disabling Bluetooth in iPad Settings, exit Settings, then force-restart the iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
