Exporting images from Photos with Keywords, Title and Caption

I'm using the Photos application (Version 6.0 (330.0.150) in Big Sur (11.2.1) to export image (photos) while attempting to retain the Keyword (and possibly Title and Caption) information,

The export dialog provides the selection to "include Title, Keywords and Caption" as an option.

However, if you export as a JPEG, or as original format, the information is not exported into the comments section of the file. It just doesn't work.

Exporting as TIFF or PNG, the Title, Keyword, Caption data is applied to the comments section of the file. JUST NOT JPEG.

Is Apple aware of this issue? The export confusion has issued for years on this app. (Hey, special thanks to Apple for renaming the photo management program so intuitively. "I'm managing my photos in Photos." Or try searching for "Exporting photos with keywords from Photos" — what a joy.

Most of the questions for this issue are going back 10-15 years. So either people have given up or don't care anymore.

Hi

With you on the naming.

On the exif data - there is a known bug (at least known in this forum) that jpg exports are currently not including metadata in Big Sur. The slightly inconvenient workaround is to export in TIF format, and then convert to jpg after export (Preview can batch convert if you need it to).

Whether apple knows about it is difficult to say. Many people have reported it but Apple don't feed back. The more who do, the more likely they are to fix it (I want a fix because it is holding me back from my Big Sur upgrade). If you want to add your voice, then the place to do it is here:

That's a know bug with the current version of Photos, V 6.0. To keep the pressure on Apple report it via Feedback - Photos - Apple

If you export the file as a tiff with the options to include the metadata it will work. You can then convert the tiff to HEIC or jpeg and it will keep the metadata in the file.

Or export the original file with the option to include the XML file for that photo and the XML file will have the metadata. But you will need an app that can import the XML file along with the image file to get the metadata associated with the image.
