Issue's with the Apple TV and FUNCTION 101 remote...

Hi, this question pertains to my Apple TV 4K connections.

Here’s what I have.

1) Samsung 75” TV

2) Yamaha Receiver 5.1

3) Apple TV 4K

The Apple TV is connected to the Yamaha’s HDMI AV1. The Yamaha’s HDMI Out is connected to the Samsung’s HDMI-ARC port.

Is this correct?

I'm asking because I purchased a FUNCTION 101 remote. The Apple remote drives my crazy.

Out of the box, I can get the remote to see the Yamaha's volume, but all the other buttons to work the Apple TV are not working.

I even tried to get the Apple TV to LEARN the remote, but the Apple TV says some buttons are already taken.

I know the FUNCTION 101 is not an Apple product, but Is my Apple TV set up correctly?

How you connect the Apple TV to the TV and receiver, has many valid and working configurations, including what you describe. Apple TV → AV receiver → TV. I have it set up similarly.

An IR remote communicates with each device individually, so how you connect them together is not relevant for the remote. The remote won’t know nor care. It matters how you connect for a lot of functionality, but it doesn’t matter for the remote.

Urquhart1244, the info on their support page didn't help. That's the first thing I did.

I have a Samsung TV and the remote is suppose to work out of the box, which is why I was asking about the connections. You mentioned that you have a similar connection, Apple TV → AV receiver → TV.

Did the remote working right out of the box, or did you have to reset the remote, or change anything in the Apple TV?

I connect my Apple TV through an AV receiver, but I am quite happy with the Siri Remote. I have not ever used any Function101 remote, nor other true universal remote. However, the directional controls and Enter button in its center on my TV remote work for the Apple TV box too, without any special configuration.

I would suggest that you contact the Function101 Support staff for further assistance, as I have no knowledge of specifics of their devices.
