DTMF touch tone options not working on iPhone 12 - help!

I have a problem when receiving conference calls on my iPhone 12, running iOS 14.4.1

I need to select various keypad options in order to join the call using touch tone/DTMF. When I select them on the keypad, no input is not recognised and I cannot join the call. This is the same whether on speaker, or not.

Putting mute on is not working. I have found that I can make DTMF selections when dialling out.

This is causing me huge stress, if anyone can help?
