Mac Pro Touch Bar failures: why no free repair program?

My Touch Bar failed (alternately flashing/completely dead/dead zone on RHS) after 18 months. There are many examples of the identical early failure published here and elsewhere... it appears to be a fairly widespread, single cause product quality failure.

Replacement of the touch bar costs around $600, so Apple is profiting from this design flaw.

How nice it would be if Apple took responsibility and repaired these failures at nominal cost, even if out of warranty, so customers could feel well treated and not, as at present, abused.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.2
