Activation could not be completed. Please restore the Apple Watch and install the latest version of WatchOS and attempt activation again.

I got this second hand Apple Watch Series 2 but I think not yet updated. I tried pairing with my iPhone but it says "Activation could not be completed. Please restore the Apple Watch and install the latest version of WatchOS and attempt activation again. If problem persists, please contact customer service." I got stuck with this. I have tried with iPhone 5 using iOS 10.3.4, iPhone 6 using 12.5.1 and another with iOS 12.5 but of no avail. I also tried iPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS 14.4 and 14.5 beta.


What could be the problem. I don't know the WatchOS version.

To restore the watch you have to unpair and erase and then re-pair again;

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Then;

Set up and pair your Apple Watch with iPhone - Apple Support
