External HD space issue while copying from MAC

I am having external hd where I used to save data from my Mac, it was working fine. But all of a sudden now, I am getting message while saving data in external HD “ can’t be copied because it is too large for the volume’ s format”. HD has available space of 800 GB and file which I trying to copy is just 6 GB.

can someone please help.
