Keynote refuses to record

Every once in a while, Keynote just refuses to record. Like today, when I have recordings to make and upload tonight. I hate this. I tried the suggestion about selecting all, going to the inspector, etc. with no joy. Any hint of what is wrong? There is no prior recording.

But now, I have 2 challenges: 1) After I click the record button at the bottom of the record screen, it counts down, then a popup appears saying, "Cannot use built-in microphone." Recording of presentation not possible Are you aware of the issue that the latest version of Keynote (Version 12.2)has problems recording presentations? If I pause the recording of a webinar (because I made a mistake while speaking), I can't continue afterwards. .

Keynote Narration recording problems If I pause when narrating a presentation by clicking on the red record button, and then rewind on the timeline and start re-recording, the recording is no longer saved - the recording is only saved up to the point when the narration was originally paused. This is the same bug reported in this conversation 15 months ago, which is now locked: Keynote Narration recording problems. - Apple Community The workaround suggested by the author works: i.e. to restart a recording after the pause, hit record then the pause button twice (once to pause and once to unpause). But this seems to be a bug that has gone unfixed for over a year. When will the bug be fixed?

This time, saving everything and then restarting solved my problem.
