My iphone battery is due for repair and is not charging properly and when is done it probably takes 5 minutes before any life in the battery is left
How do go about this since it feels like a non functioning phone

Take it to an Apple Store or authorised provider and get the battery replaced.
That should fix the battery drain issues.
Just make sure the place you’re going to is using genuine Apple parts and not some cheapie, counterfeit garbage that’ll cause even more problems.
