macbookpro 2010 kernel panik, sudden crashing,

hi all,

macbookpro 2010 started with a kernel attack a couple of weeks ago. Last week it did it again twice. Since yesterday it s continued to crash suddenly the browser followed by finder and by making unaccessible any folder on the mac. it does not go simply anymore in a kernel panic as it s typically described (and as it has been doing for the past few weeks).

so to recap since yesterday the startup of the system is fine and it allows me to work for a 1h or so..but then suddenly it crashes each process one by one. and it does not even restart ..it just lingers there ..as a sadistic machine..!

i ve read that i should fix a capacitor on the keyboard connected to the graphic in order to fix kernel-attacks; but as this does not seem a kernel panic anymore then i am seeking for further advices , please.

another point, yesterday, in coincidence, i had to quit firefox (i use it for my browser). after that the system resulted to have an extra hidden copy of firefox running, which was blocking the new startup of the browser.

solution in this case was to reset the mac and it all worked again.

different hours later the systematic crashing described above started .

Hello Luigi1988,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're experiencing crashing and kernel panic on your Mac. Are you running the latest version of macOS on your device? Does this happen if you start up your Mac in safe mode? Starting in safe mode will take a little longer than normal, because it verifies and repairs the directory, cleans caches, and loads only Apple-critical items.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

You also mentioned that you've reset your Mac. Can you explain how this was done? Please see: If your Mac restarted because of a problem

Cheers.

hello Barberlives,

thanks for the attention and help

I am running high sierra

sorry if I have taken sme time to reply but I needed to try things out.

so, following your advice i have booted the mac up in safe mode and it worked fine, without errors.

i switched back to std. and the errors ( mac freezing , ball spinning etc) came up again.

I then opened a guest account on the mac. that has been working quite fine.

from here I could deduce there is some evil file or something, storming my main account and mac section

concerning apps at startup of the mac, I only have firefox and google drive uploader

when the mac typically freezes , i am only working with firefox , google drive and adobe reader

to this I would like to say that all my problems started two three weeks ago and in order:

  • my mac had a first kernel panic , in the history of its long 10years
  • then one/two days later googlechrome automatically updated itself and suddenly the freezing episodes came up (first time ever)
  • it got to a point that googlechrome was unpracticle as it was only crashing ; so i downloaded firefox
  • firefox lasted fine for a couple of weeks or so and then it also started crashing and freezing the mac
  • meanwhile i have been trying to get rid of all the suspicious apps on the mac (webcalls apps, anti malware, software updates for different hardwares etc..)
  • meanwhile i have had another couple of kernel panics spread across the past two weeks
  • now i am writing this post by using googlechrome (working perfectly) from the guest section of the mac,

based on this info, what do you recommend of doing?

thanks a lot for the attention

cheers,

luigi
