How do I fix having to double click everything?

Hi

I mostly use my MacBook Pro for coding and gaming. One issue I’ve had a lot is having to double click everything to register the first click. For some programs, it works fine. I can click normally and get on my way. But for others, I have to double click. For example, the Minecraft Launcher. When I launch Minecraft thru the launcher, sometimes I have to double click everything. But I can fix that by going in and out using F3. For some programs that I can’t use F3 for however, I’m having to double click everything. I’m using a wired mouse via an adapter and have tried tons of settings to fix this. Nothing works however. Please help me fix this issue. And if it helps, for most of my games that I play, I use Steam.

Thanks :)

Welcome Johannathan,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you have to double click in specific apps to register when you should only have to left click normally. We'll do our best to help out.

When opening a launcher, it's expected behavior to have to double click the mouse to open it. This isn't necessarily Apple, but the app's developer that handles the responsiveness of their apps.

With that said, we'd encourage you to test this out using another mouse, altogether. If you haven't tested that yet, then that would be our first suggestion for isolation. Do you have the same issues when using the built-in trackpad?

Hoping to hear back from you soon, cheers!
