iOS won't play audio files from embedded Google sites media player

I am renewing this thread. I have the exact same problem.

It seems very likely this is an Apple problem, not a Google problem.

I can, from a browser on a PC (Chrome or Edge), stream audio directly from the embedded player on my Google Sites page. RamonEM in this post confirmed they can stream from Android but like them, I cannot stream from my iPhone, in my case an iPhone 12 running iOS 14.4.1. The page loads on my iPhone, but when I press the play button on the media player, though the play button turns into a pause button, the file play time indicator does not initiate, and the file does not play.

It's worth noting that if I click the "open in new window" icon on the right side of the image above, the browser (Chrome or Safari) in iOS will open a new tab and playback will begin.

So, my question is; is there a fix for this or is Apple currently working on one?

If needed I will provide a link to my Google Sites page for testing. Be warned though that the page presents a curated a collection of my brilliant electronic music that I had hoped to share with an even more carefully curated collection of critics.
