Connectivity question with Time Machine and two Minis
I think that I need to replace my Mac Mini. I want to ask about the how to save time in doing so.
In the past I have used a Time Machine backup when moving to a new computer. I backup the old computer to Time Machine, and then restore that backup to the new machine. In the past this process has taken many hours.
This time the machine is the one at the office. I don’t want to interrupt my busy day any more than I have to. I want to find a process by which I can continue to work while using Time Machine. I want to find a way of controlling both the old and the new Minis at the same time.
The Time Machine backup is on a USB external hard drive. Connecting it to the new Mini is easy. I am thinking that I could use an Ethernet cable to connect the old and the new Minis. What I would hope to accomplish with this connection is to be able to go through the old Mini and operate the new Mini while Time Machine restores to the new Mini. The goal is to continue working with the old Mini while restoring to the new Mini. When done, I could then remove the old Mini and connect the new Mini to my keyboard and monitor.
Would this technique work?
