An error occurred while downloading the updates. (102)

I have a pretty old laptop and just did a full erase and a clean install.

It's a MacBook Pro Retina 13-inch Late 2012

Processor 2.5ghz intel core i5

memory 8gb 1600 mhz ddr3

os X version 10.8.5

I want to update it to a newer OS, as I wanted to install some apps that I had running pre-erase.

When I look for updates, it only lists 'itunes'; it listed more, but i was able to install those.

It's listing that it wants to update to iTunes 12.4.3, but then fails with the 102 error when i try to run it.

I don't particularly need to be on the latest OS, I really want to get it to 10.10 though, as that's what the app i need requires.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Ok, figured it out.

Basically all the instructions are here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683

First looked up the latest version supported on my laptop, which is macOS 10.15.7 on this page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683

It turns out that I can't directly update to 10.15.7, as that update requires a minimum of 10.10.

So I've installed 10.14.6 using the links off the site above (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683)

Then I installed 10.15.7 using the same site.

Now I can install the actual app I need.
