Drag to compare text in text edit

A quick way to compare a load of text at a glance used to be to just highlight the text in one document and then drag it to another. The dragged text stayed visible while you dragged so you could overlay it on the other text and it would make any differences immediately obvious.

In Mojave (which I am restricted to) this has been pointlessly replaced with an animation, shrinking the text to a cursor.

I don't think I should need to download 3rd party software to just compare two text passages on a machine that has far more processing power than was used available to the first spacecraft.

What is the quickest, simplest way to compare two docs, Pages? (not familiar with it).

Or is there a better way? Sublime Text seems to have removed this functionality.
