No sound on incoming imessages - but only if sender's phone is in do not disturb

Occasionally I do not get a sound notification when I receive a new imessage, even though the Ringer and Alerts level is high. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, how did you fix it?

fwiw, this seems to happen only for senders who have their phone in 'do not disturb' mode (half moon icon.)

Thanks,

Hi ik99,

It sounds like you're having trouble with notifications and we want to help.

You might have accidentally turned off alerts for these conversations.

You can change that and turn off the moon icon you're looking at with these steps:

"Turn on Hide alerts

  1. Open Messages.
  2. Swipe left over the conversation that you want to mute.
  3. Tap the Alerts button .

When Hide Alerts is on, a crescent moon icon  will appear next to the conversation. This stops notifications only for that conversation, not your device. You’ll still receive all other messages and see notifications for them on your Lock screen."

Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Let us know if that helps.
