Hi manystories,

Insert menu > Text box…

OR click the Text button in the Tool bar (to right of the Index menu in the imge)

Drge the text box to where you want it on the page an resize it using the control handles at the corners or the centre of the sides or top and bottom boundaries.

Then…

Click in the Placeholder text message and "Type to enter text," or paste intext you hac copied to the clipboard earlier.

Barry

Thanks again Barry, I can see how to handle text ,although I’m working on an iPad and there is no toolbar, I wish! Backtracking to basics, would you know the exact dimensions of the horizontal layout page? I see 13” on the horizontal, but do not see a ruler for the vertical measurement. I just need the ratio of the finished page, so as not to have to crop my image once in Pages. the image will be the width of the page and half in height, set against top border. In the remaining bottom half two equal text boxes side by side.

thank you!

Hi manystories,

In Pages for Mac, both horizontal and vertical rulers will show in a Page Layout document, where the page is composed of several objects placed independently on the page, For Pages word processing documents, there's an option to enable the vertical ruler in the Rulers section of Pages Preferences.

Page size and orientation are set using these controls in the Page Setup menu item in the File menu.

Your 13" print area measurement implies it is set for a US Letter size sheet, with half inch margins at left and right (and probably at top and bottom). If that's default setting (rather than a custom setting you created), it's a pleasant change from the 1" margins all around of earlier Pages versions.

Aspect ration of that sheet in landscape mode is 8 1/2 : 11 and of the print area, if I've guessed right on the margin settings, would be 7 1/2 : 10 1/2 (or in whole numbers 15:21, which reduces to 5:7.

Controls should be similar, but not identical, in the iOS version of Pages, but the iWork for iOS would be a better oplace to get that information.

Regards,

Barry
