Cracking noise on the left side.

The MacBook I'm currently using is a MacBook Pro 15" 2016 model and I have it now around 4,5 years.

This morning I turned on my MacBook and a cracking noise was present during startup. I quickly turned off the machine and tried to blow into the air vents to maybe remove something that is blocking the fans. Because I really need the machine today I turned it on today. What I noticed is that the cracking noise isn't constant enough to be from the fans (this is what I think of course). So, maybe it's something else. On the internet I saw that a common problem is a cracking speaker, which should be fixed somethings with a VRAM. This didn't fix the problem.

So, if someone has a solution I am glad to hear it. Otherwise I will try to make an appointment with the apple store. I also have the problems that keys are sticking but that program is only for 4 years after the device is bought. But maybe they will make an exception.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Greetings,

Ruben

Most likely the noise is coming from the fan. The fans on these USB-C Apple laptops can make a faint crackling sound, but not all the time as it may only occur at certain fan speeds or when the laptop is at certain angles.

You can run the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected to make sure the fan(s) are still functioning properly even if they are making the noise. Plus you may be able to notice the noise when the diagnostic performs the fan speed test which may confirm what is producing the noise.
