iphone Xs music stops randomly

When listening to music, either bluetooth or though my car speakers when connected via a cord, on either Spotify or ITunes, the music randomly stops mid song. The pause button is displayed like it doesn't know it's stopped. The only way to start it is to skip to the next song. I'm unable to go back and play the song it had started playing though. It happens many times a day and been going on for several month. I'm on 14.4.1.

Hello Keppahaol,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're experiencing issues when playing music while your device is connected to your car via cable, or when playing audio through Bluetooth.

You mentioned that your device still presents an option to pause the song being played. Is this occurring with songs downloaded for offline use, or are they being streamed?

If you're streaming content, have you tried testing your network connection in a different internet-based app? What were the results?

The latest version of iOS is 14.4.2, so updating is a great place to start. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We'd also recommend checking to see if the same issue occurs while connected to a different network (Wi-Fi or cellular).

Thanks!

 Keppahaol,

Thanks for the additional information. Does this also occur when playing music through the built-in speakers on your iPhone?

If not, we'd recommend forgetting the Bluetooth device you're connected to, then reconnecting and testing again. Check out the steps under "Unpair a Bluetooth device" in Set up and listen to Bluetooth devices on iPhone

Also, have you had the chance to test with a different cable while connected to your car stereo? We'd recommend ensuring that any cable you're using is a certified Lightning cable.

Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories

Regards.

Thanks for your reply. It happens with music that has been downloaded; either downloaded music from Spotify or Apple. It happens no matter how i'm listening to it, bluetooth or directly from the phone. I'm certain it is the phone. I have upgraded to 14.4.2 and it's still happening. The only way to get music to resume is to shut down the app and restart or skip to the next song. It happens on so many songs that I'm sure it's not the songs. Nothing has changed on my phone that I'm aware of. I also cleared a lot of space on the phone's storage in case it was a RAM issue. Still no luck.

Thank you again. The fact that it happens whether I'm connected via a USB cord or Bluetooth seems to me that it's not the fault of a Bluetooth connection or a cord. It happens via the Bluetooth to my home stereo as well as in the car, so that's two different Bluetooth connections. It also happens when I'm connected to my car stereo via USB cord. It has to be the phone, not Bluetooth or a cord. I've also tried re-pairing my phone to bluetooth, restarting my phone, upgrading, etc., nothing works.
