Is it possible to connect an old iMac 2013 as monitor for mac mini M1?

I have seen two answers to this question, and all says no, it is not possible. So, it is a hardware problem or a software problem? I simple don't get it, how Apple can be so unfriendly and don't allow us to use vintage good equipment.

So either it is a hardware issue and there is a definitive "No, it is not possible because..." or "we are trying hard to get a solution and this will be launch on our next Big Sur update"... Which one is the correct answer in full?

iMac 27″, 10.15

The answer is no, because no Mac’s built after 2019 can use a supported iMac as a display.

The correct answer is it will never happen, period.

Deal with it as I have had to with my late 2013 27" iMac.
