Safari crashing when typing on address/search bar

I have been having trouble with Safari crashing anytime I try to type on the search bar, or even to copy te url address. I was able to get to addresses by typing them in a note and then opening directly into Safari that way. I have cleared Caches, history and all suggestions that I have found here, but nothing has worked. I am working on a MacBook Pro 16" with touchbar, Safari v. 14.0.3. Big Sur 11.2.3

I appreciate any suggestions so I can fix this. Thank you in advance.

This is the crash report I get:

Let's try this:

  1. Make sure Safari is closed
  2. Optionally, if you can, i.e. you have nothing important there, empty the Trash. This will make it easier to recover the files in the next step
  3. Open Finder
  4. In the menu, click Go
  5. Click Go to Folder
  6. Type ~/Library/Safari/
  7. Move all the folders and files to Trash (If you haven't emptied the Trash, make a note of the time you trash them as we may need to recover them)
  8. Open Safari and test

If this fails:

  1. Open Trash
  2. Select all folders and files that deleted above (either all the folders and files if you emptied your Trash or, if not, using the time stamp as an indication of which to restore)
  3. Click Put Back

If this works, we need to restore your bookmarks:

  1. Close Safari
  2. Open Trash
  3. Select the Bookmarks.plist file
  4. Right-click it and click Put Back
  5. Open Safari and test

If this now fails, we know the culprit is your bookmark list. You'll need to delete the Bookmarks.plist file in ~/Library/Safari/

Your report shows nothing untoward which makes finding a solution the much harder. I would like to try something to see if the address bar is the issue:

  1. Try to open any website from say a safe email or by any other mean that doesn't crash Safari
  2. Try clicking on various links in the webpage (hopefully you'll find quite a few) and assert that Safari is not crashing

If this goes well, it will tell us that something related to the address bar is the issue. Then try turn off "Enable Quick Website Search" and "Preload Top Hit", in the Safari > Preferences > Search:

The above screenshot shows mine turned on, but you'll need to turn them off.

If all fails, I have a couple of ideas that are going to be more difficult to implement. So, in the meantime, make sure you backup your device locally through Time Machine (sorry, iCloud won't cut it).

From what Apple Support did, we can conclude that the issue is related to your account. The next thing to try is to clear your cache:

  1. Make sure Safari is closed
  2. Open Finder
  3. In the menu, click Go
  4. Click Go to Folder
  5. Type ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari (the "~" is very important) and click Go
  6. Move the Cache.db, Cache.db-shm and Cache.db-wal to the Trash
  7. Start Safari and test

The files will be re-created automatically when Safari runs.

I called support and a very nice support person helped me, however the only solution we could find was to create a new user and Safari didn't crash when signed with this new user. However now I have to move all my data manually which is a pain in the neck. I'm still using my original user and if i get the time to move everything to the new user I will. For now I will use Chrome.

Hopefully a better solution will come up. Something about the cookies and the data. It's probably a bug. Thanks.
