Connecting MacBook Air with M1 Chip to Projector

I am having a hard time connecting my MacBook Air with the M1 chip to a projector in a classroom. My Macbook with the Intel chip connects easily. Is there something different with this new computer? I am using an adapter. The cord from the projector is VGA with an adaptor to HDMI.

Muleshoe6,

We appreciate you checking those details for us, and we can certainly understand your frustration.

Since the MacBook Air connected to other displays normally, have you reached out to the projector manufacturer to check for any troubleshooting steps on their end?

Also, to further isolate the source of the issue, restart in safe mode, and check for the connection issue there: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Finally, to determine if the issue is user-specific or system-wide, create a new admin user account and try connecting to the projector there: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Thanks!

Hello Muleshoe6,

Thank you for taking the time to post your question using Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're experiencing issues with connecting your projector with your MacBook Air.

First, we'd recommend ensuring that you're following the steps here to connect your projector: Connect a display, TV, or projector to Mac

Muleshoe6,

Thanks for that additional information.

Next, make sure your Mac is currently up to date: How to update the software on your Mac

Also, do you experience the same issue when connecting your MacBook Air to other displays via HDMI?

If you notice the video output issue occurs with every display you connect to via HDMI, give the steps here a try: Revive or restore Mac firmware in Apple Configurator 2

We hope this helps.

I've tried 2 different adapters to try to connect this MBA to the projector. No luck. The projector does not sense a signal as it does with my older model. Additionally, I cannot record my lectures with Kaltura Capture like I can with my old MBA.

It's frustrating because I had planned to trade in my older model, but I have to keep it to do certain functions.
