CarPlay issues

My husband and I both have CarPlay in our vehicles. 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, and 2019 Cadilac XT5. Both our phones are iphone 11's and both phones are experiencing the same issues in both cars.

When we plug in, only the front speakers are playing when we are listening to music. My car shows that the "voice volume" is engaged. We found that if we use the voice command button on the steering wheel and raise or lower the voice volume, then go back to carplay that usually fixes the problem, and then all speakers work for the music. We have to do this EVERY TIME we use CarPlay.

It started about 1 week ago. Strange...... Any help would be appreciated.

Sconnelly10,

Thanks for the clarification. Apologies for the confusion. You are correct. We're happy to hear that things work as expected over Bluetooth though. Have you worked with the manufacturer at all with regard to the issues you're facing while using a direct connection? Does this behavior occur regardless of the USB port used on your car? We ask as many vehicles require you to use a specific USB port for CarPlay.

Also, have you updated both devices to the latest iOS version available for them since first noticing this occur? Have you tested things out with a different USB cable?

We hope to use this information to continue isolating things further.

Thanks!

Hey sconnelly10,

Sounds like you're experiencing an issue with audio using CarPlay with your iPhone 11's. We'll be happy to help out.

With this occurring on both cars and both cars being a GMC, can you clarify for us if the message regarding "voice volume" is from the GMC software or from within the CarPlay software? You also mention when plugging in, but does this also occur when connecting to your iPhone's over Bluetooth?

Hopefully the answers to the questions above can help us narrow down what might be going on.

Thanks!

Hi Jeremy

Both car's are not GMC products. Cadillac XT5 and RAM 1500 truck. the "voice volume" message only shows on my Cadillac not on the RAM, and I don't know if this a Carplay software issue or GMC software. I assume not GMC since both vehicles are doing it.

Also, both vehicles do connect to bluetooth, and both vehicles volume work with bluetooth connection. Again, have to assume it's the carplay software.
