this is what I'm getting. It asks to download an update for 11.2.3 but that is already on my m1. So what I'm asking id if I should download it or leave it as it is.
Maybe I am wrong, but it clearly states your Mac is up to date.
Leave it as is.
If you don't see Software Update:

Or use this link to open the macOS Big Sur page on the App Store: Get macOS Big Sur. Then click the Get button or iCloud download icon.
Please read about backing up your Mac and other instructions/information.
Think you are asking about an update to Big Sur ? Your Profile is showing Big Sur 11.2 and there is an 11.2.3 avaiable. If correct there are ways to perform this. One can restart the computer in Safe Mode - Shift - key immediately at startup. It does some thing before eventually loading the Log In screen so loads slowly. This mode will only load Apple Software and Fonts thereby eliminating any Third Party software from interfering with the update process. Open System Preferences >> Software updates and it should see any updates for Big Sur and ask if you want to download and install.

If you have an M1, you already have Big Sur.
