WD My Book studio seems not to be working with the processor M1? I get msg "Time Machine could not finish the backup to My Book" A problem was found when the map for backup was created.

The WD My Book studio is working ok together with my iMac 20019 on OS Big Sur.

If I am not in error - the external drive needs to be re-formatted on the M1 computer to APFS and GUID for Time Machine Backup to work. I am not 100% sure but the formatting process on M1 is different than on Intel Formatting. Will concede to more Learned Contributors on this one.
If you use the same drive for two machines using Time Machine Backup - not a good idea. The Drive could fail and then Both computers would be without any Backup. Under normal usage - Time Machine Backup want to use the Entire Drive. Can only suggest making this drive dedicated to one or the other machine and purchase another drive or the secondary machine.
To totally erase the existing - attach to computer >> open Disk Utilities >> View >> View all attached Drives. Now on left - choose the Upper Most Name of the External Drive WD My Book and not the Volumes listed below it. Choose Erase and give it a name - Choose APFS and Scheme - GUID Partition Map >> Ease. It should erase everything on the drive. Whatever was on the drive will be gone and can not be brought back.
The drive is now available to be used in Time Machine Backup

Tänkte jag skulle följa ert förslag och radera min ”My Book” och starta om från början men det går inte att radera den externa WD My Book Studio.
Får följande meddelande:
"Den här volymen är 1,52 TB full.
Du kan inte ta bort den här volymen eftersom det inte går att ändra storlek på den föregående volymen.”
Förstår inte riktigt vad det betyder. Driven rymmer 2 TB
Kan sägas att jag använder samma drive till Time Machine för min iMac, kan det betyda något? Tänkte jag kunde radera hela disken och starta om med
Time Machine från båda datorerna??
