Quicktime defaults to AirPlay dropdown

I saw a similar question on this community but there was no response to it and since then that thread was locked, so im creating this question again hoping someone can shed some light to this situation.

So the issue is that whenever i open an audio file in Quicktime, the airplay icon is always in focus and whenever i hit the spacebar, the AirPlay dropdown opens up. Its really annoying. The only workaround i found to this is to hit the TAB button and the focus goes away from the AirPlay button and it functions just fine. I just want to be able to hit the spacebar to play/pause the clip rather than opening the dropdown everytime

As pointed out in the previous thread it seems to be a bug that defaults the 'focus' to the airplay option rather than the play/pause button. Hoping that this is addressed in a future update.

Hello jahanzebk1,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We're happy to see what we can do to help. As we understand it, you find that pressing Spacebar brings up your AirPlay options when you open an audio file in QuickTime Player. Is that right?

We did some testing and found that the Spacebar seems to be pausing and unpausing playback, so there may be a few things to consider in order to rule out some causes.

Does this happen every single time, or is it intermittent?

If you click Apple menu () > Restart and immediately test it out, does the issue occur?

What format is the audio file in question? Does it happen if you test a few video files also?

Are you using an external display?

You might be able to further narrow this down by testing in a newly-created administrator account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. This will tell if you the issue is system-wide or user-specific.

Let us know the answers to the above, and the results of testing in a new user account.

Kind regards.

Hi ryane77,

Thanks for replying. Yes it does happen every-time, even after restarting the entire system. it only happens with audio files. so far ive tested out MP3, WAV, AIFF & AAC. It does not happen with video files. No i am not using an external display.

Another thing i should have added in my original post is that when i hit the spacebar, it does indeed start the playback but at the same time it opens up the AirPlay drop down menu but then hitting the spacebar again does not pause the playback cause the drop down menu is already opened. I have to click somewhere in the quicktime window so that the drop down goes away. Then hitting the spacebar pauses the audio but again it opens up the AirPlay drop down menu cause the 'focus' is back at the AirPlay button
