iPhone 7+ home button hot and cracked

My phone was in my pocket, not dropped, banged or bumped. I pressed home button which was very hot and didn’t work and then noticed it was smashed, into several pieces! This must have happened from over heating, it couldn’t possibly have happened by banging it without me knowing! It had a software update the night before. Any thoughts?
