MacBook Pro M1 crackling and popping sounds

Hi, has anyone experienced issues with the MacBook Pro (M1 chip + Touch Bar, bought in January) sound? It started in the last week whenever I listen to music or watch something with frequent crackling and popping sounds as well as other playback issues - the audio/videos keep jumping back a few seconds for instance. This has been happening over different apps and websites, either songs or videos. I have updated everything (currently on Big Sur 11.2.3) and tried exiting all the apps and opening them again, but it hasn't helped. Many thanks for any feedback/advice :)

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're running into an issue with the speakers for your MacBook Pro. Have you tried testing this issue while booted up into safe mode or under a test user account? If not, this is the best place to start.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Delete a user or group on Mac (to remove the test account once completed)

Keep us posted on your findings and if the issue persists, just let us know.
