iMac hanging on start up

my new iMac gets to the end of loading but no further. I have booted up in safe made and verbose mode and reset PRAM. unplugged restarted etc. any ideas? It is linked to my MacBook Air and I can remotely access it through the MacBook Air. is it possible to run a disc repair remotely? Other thoughts?

Try booting into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair the drive. If you get any error notifications rerun Disk Utility until you get none. Then reboot normally and see if that makes any difference.

If the problem persists repeat the Recovery volume boot and reinstall the system.

Have you installed or run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" or anti-virus apps on your Mac?
