Ghost touch issue on iPhone X and Apple will not repair it at no cost?

I updated my X with the latest Apple O/S update this week and the next day, it began this ghosting thing. The phone is basically unusable for more than a minute or two, if that. I took it to Apple store and they said it needs new display module at a cost of $519 + tax. I bought this phone when it came out in Nov 2017. Not spending that much on this phone. I can buy a nice new phone under factory warranty for same amount or slightly more. My phone has never been dropped or repaired or damaged in any way. This is totally an Apple hardware/software issue. I do not care if the phone is out of warranty or not. When it fails after being perfectly cared for, they should repair it at no cost. This is not a $250 phone. It is a $1,000 phone and should last for more than 3 1/2 years. I have TVs I paid $300 for that last forever. This is ridiculous. I have owned Apple products for 20 years. I own Apple stock. Well, no more. I am buying a Samsung and giving that a shot.
