Minimize in Full Screen

So, there is no way to minimize, straight away, from full screen? Why even have a greyed out yellow button in full screen? If it is not possible to minimize from full screen, there should just be a red and green button. Why are we forced to perform an extra step just to minimize from full screen, if the only solutions are to 1) Press esc/green button and then the yellow button, or 2) Press esc/green button and then command + m? Why? Why why why? Why tease the user with a greyed out yellow button only to find out there is a workaround that must be performed? This literally defies user experience logic.

What would you expect to happen in this case?

Conceptually, in full screen mode, other applications are hidden. Therefore there are two pseudo-logical responses I could imagine off the top of my head:

1) the frontmost app is hidden. you get a black screen because all other apps are hidden

2) the second-to-front application comes frontmost, full-screen

Neither of these are ideal. I half-suspect Apple agonized over the same issues and opted to not minimize full-screen apps to avoid the confusion.
