Why do I need to verify my billing information for free apps and games?

Unless you have a NONE option in the payment methods of your account details, you must have a valid & functioning payment method in your account, even for free content.

Sometimes the system asks you to verify that payment method to determine if it is you using the account, as only you should be able to make the verification.
