My dad has an iPhone 4 and all of a sudden he can’t turn off the phone unless you do a hard restart. Then you can not slide to open the phone, there is a square around the time and also the “turn off” area. It seems completely locked. No error messages come up. Anyone?

Specifically, you'd want to use the steps under "Use the Home button" and triple-click the Home button to attempt disabling this feature. If that doesn't work, tell us more about what's occurring. For example, when you try to tap on the screen, do you hear any sound (such as the time)?
