Preventing dust and corrosion inside Macbook Pro

Hello,

I'm lucky enough to live at the beach! It's great, except that the air here is humid, salty and corrosive, and I've now had 2 macs die within 6 months of owning them (logic board dead in both cases), and also an older mac die (also logic board) within 6 months of moving here.

Current mac is a 16" MBP, and has been sent in for repair, under warranty since it's only 5 months old. Hoping to prevent this problem once I get it back in working order!

I'm looking for any advice about how to keep the ventilation system on MacBooks clean and free of dust (yes, the air is generally dusty here too).

Apple support wasn't too helpful, so I'm hoping maybe the community has some better advice than what they were able to provide.

  • Is it safe to use any kind of filter around the vents?
  • Is it safe to blow them out occasionally with compressed air?
  • Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

The only suggestions i have for you in maybe trying to answer your questions are:

1: no .. blocking the vents is a big no-no, if it doesn’t block the vents it might work..

two- it might be...

three- you can get dust/ dirt plugs to cover the ports of your MacBookPro 16” from 2021..

i’d suggest getting a ruggedized case for your MacBook Pro 16” ( 2021) plus the anti- dust port plugs and something like iSchmutz for a MacPro5,1 from 2008 to 2012.. from transIntl( transintl.com

that’s all i got
