Your router is offering WEP, WPA, or WPA2 TKIP security.

Apple suggests WPA2 AES, WPA3/WPA3 transitional, or WPA3 security.

Your router may well be re-configurable to one of these, or may not be.

As sagely suggested above, if the router is sketchy to start with, replace it.

Routers can and do fail, and weak signals are one of various possible symptoms.

I only have a problem with some sites e.g. National Lottery since the most recent upgrade. So how do I reconfigure the router or am I just better to contact the Post Office for a new one or switch provider?

By “some sites”, are you referring to security-related messages using Wi-Fi on some other Wi-Fi network, or are you referring to using Safari to access a website operated by the Post Office, for instance?

As there can be some confusingly-similar messages, what’s the exact text of the error message you’re encountering?

If it is a weak Wi-Fi network operated by somebody else, well, that’s on them to fix, a d on you to decide if you’ll use that link. You’ll still want to confirm, for instance, that you are only using SSL/TLS/HTTPS connections for mail and web access generally, a d particularly on those networks.

If this is specific websites using your same Wi-Fi, then the condition you’re encountering is not the one related to the Wi-Fi diagnostics discussed above.

And as it sometimes arises in this context, adding a commercial VPN client doesn’t provide what most folks think it does, and can provide access to others that some might not prefer or might not realize.
