macbook pro keeps opening tabs

I have a older MacBoo pro that is opening tabs on its own. Most of the time they say its from apple and that my computer is infected. Once in a while it will be an add for some sort of malware remover or adware remover. I think i might have downloaded a virus or something last time I downloaded an update to adobe. Can anyone please help me find the files I need to get rid of this? Thanks

Hi dmadhavan,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. We certainly understand your concern if you're seeing pop-ups when using your Mac! We can share a resource that should help you get started.

First, check out this link to see if any of the steps here help: About pop-up ads and windows in Safari

It may also be helpful to check out a tool like MalwareBytes, which is software that claims to help with pop-ups: Mac Antivirus | Malwarebytes Antivirus for Mac

Cheers!

Thanks, I've already checked out the "About pop-up ads and windows in Safari." It didn't change anything. The new tabs kept opening and ads kept popping up. I'm a bit reluctant to download anything right now since this is how this happened in the first place. Plus I've been told you should never need to use that kind of software on a mac. Maybe things have changed with Mac's now and we do need to use that kind of software, I'm not sure. Hope someone else has a different way. Thank you for your help.
