Time machine backup

I don’t have enough space so I’d like to wipeout my older backups or just reformat my external hard drive to start fresh with my Mac backups. How do I do that?

MacBook, macOS 10.15

Suggest Turn Off Time Machine on computer. Attach the backup Drive to computer. Open Disk Utilities >> View >> View All Devices. Choose the Upper Most Name of External Drive and eRase the drive with HFS Journaled and GUID Partition Map >> Erase. This will format the drive and ALL DATA will be lost forever.

Now, on computer Enable Time Machine Backup and choose the External Drive
