Apple Watch - series 6

Hi,

My boss - who is both Canadian and American - living for now in British Columbia since Covid, wants me to order an Apple Watch GPS + Cellular within the US.

Why? Because she has a subscription to an American network (T-Mobile) and wants to pair both her watch and her phone.

Since last week, I'm trying to find a solution.

  • I was told at the UPS store that they don't want to ship the watch because it has battery and that most of the time, an international package is returned if it has battery inside, and covered for a certain amount (here we would insure it because it's a fancy product).
  • I was told by T-Mobile that they can't buy it for us and ship it there because they can only ship within the country
  • I looked on the internet on the Apple's discussions. Apparently, Apple products are shipped in the country where the product is bought... which would mean that an Apple watch bought online in Canada could not pair with a T-Mobile network, because calibrated only to match the Canadian ones. Correct?

What is your advice here? Thank you

There are 2 Apple Watch cellular radios

• Canada, U.S. Mexico, Puerto Rico

• The rest of the world

Carriers will not attempt to connect to an Apple Watch that does not use the correct radio.

If you do not get your Apple Watch in your own country, you may have to return the Apple Watch to the country where purchased to get warranty service.

If you do not get your Apple Watch in your own country, there may be country specific restrictions in the installed Apple Watch software that prevent features from working when you get home.

So it should work just fine in Canada and the U.S.

So how about a "Road Trip", and take the Apple Watch to your Boss.

Or have your Boss make shipping arrangements (unless of course you get a really nice bonus out of this 😀 )

Or your Boss could just buy it is Canada, put it on Rogers, and switch to T-Mobile when she returns to the U.S.

NOTE: The Apple Watch DOES NOT do Roaming. So if she pairs it to her T-Mobile iPhone, unless she lives "JUST" across the boarder and can get U.S. T-Mobile signals, then until she returns to the U.S. a T-Mobile paired Apple Watch will just behave as if it was a GPS only Apple Watch. So again, she could buy it in Canada, and not enable the cellular radio until she returns to the U.S.

The Cellular + GPS Apple Watch shares the iPhone's phone number, and the carriers that support the Apple Watch charge a monthly fee. In the U.S. the fee is $10 per month. Here is a list of carriers that support the Apple Watch:

The GPS only Apple Watch can do Everything the Cellular model can do AS LONG AS your iPhone is nearby, where nearby is generally somewhere in the same moderately sized home. The Cellular model allows you to leave your iPhone at home while you go for a walk, run, bike ride.
