Move Phone Closer to Homepod

Recently my iPhone SE 2020 pops up a message stating "Move phone closer to HomePod". This happens with both my HomePod Minis. I talked Apple support about two weeks ago and support person had me reset network settings. This worked for awhile but now the problem is back. And when this happens the call may go silent making me change to phone speaker. The support person said its no a Mini problem and having this be a problem with both Mini's points to iPhone hardware to the software. Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?

It might be too close, that is getting close enough to transfer music playback between devices and I've had that alert when trying to do that. Perhaps you would actually be better off setting the phone down slightly further away if you're just trying to make a call rather than transfer it between the phone and HomePod.

How far away from your HomePods is your phone at the time? Likely there is some handshaking over both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Both will need a good signal to support the call.
