Import only edited photos from iPhone to MacBook Pro

This question has been asked before but the answer given was simply how to import photos, which does not solve the problem. The original issue that was posted by another user is "I normally edit my photos within the photos app on my iPhone. When I import my photos from my iPhone X to my 12 inch MacBook, the edited and the original photo both import, which will eventually take up more memory on my MacBook by having two of the same photo (one just a little edited). How can I import only the edited version of my photos?"

I also have this problem and I DO NOT want to use iCloud to sync my photos because I import photos to the computer and delete them from my phone, as I don't want thousands of photos on my phone and inevitably my whole photo library (including photos not taken with my phone) is on my Mac.

As it stands, when I import photos and one of them is an edited photo (say I changed it from portrait to landscape), BOTH versions (the portrait/original and the landscape/edited) show up in my Mac library and I either have to go and delete the original, or delete the edited version so that my library is only showing the 1 photo like it does on my phone.

Also, what is the difference between "photos" and "all photos"? "Photos" seems to BE all my photos (in order), while "all photos" seems to have no rhyme or reason as to the order, and I couldn't tell you if all my photos are actually in there or not. It couldn't be more confusing.
