I have some duplicate iCloud files on my iMac. How can I delete one copy yet retain the other ?

Hi phidgety,

There are two types of duplicates.

A) Just a plain duplicate. You can drag these to the Trash.

B) An alias. An alias has an arrow on the folder. You can also drag these to the Trash. These are just another way to access the folder.

Example of a main folder and an alias.

Cheers,

Jack

Thanks Jack,

I was really spooked about deleting anything for fear both files would be gone, though I know there's a 30-day window to retrieve them. Your answer made me calm enough to look closer and I noticed one copy had an iCloud icon and the other did not — of course I deleted the file that didn't have an iCloud icon.

Thanks again,

Phill
