Documents and Downloads folder and its content disappeared.

My documents and Downloads folder and its content disappeared when turning on iCloud. I know you can retrieve the files manually by dragging them back to new folders but a lot of files were missing and hadn't been uploaded to iCloud because there wasn't enough storage (I had the free storage plan). I have upgraded my storage plan but that didn't solve the problem and a lot of files are still missing. I can't seem to find my files from these folders anywhere, any ideas on solution or where to look?

Hello EllenZethzon,

We understand you are missing filed on your Mac after turning on iCloud. We'd like to help you get this resolved.

We recommend first checking to see if they were somehow deleted. Use these steps:

"How do I get back files that I deleted?

If you need to access a file that you deleted within the last 30 days, follow these steps to get it back.

On iCloud.com

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Go to iCloud Drive.
  3. In the bottom-right corner, select Recently Deleted items.
  4. Browse the list of files.

You can also go to Settings > Restore Files. After 30 days, files are removed from Recently Deleted and Restore Files.

On your Mac

  1. Click Trash in the Dock.
  2. Select the file that you want to keep.
  3. Drag it to the desktop or another folder."
