Call Audio Routing

I have an intermittent issue with my iPhone X, SW Version 14.4. For some reason, intermittently the automatic call routing does not work and the call is routed to the speaker instead of the earpiece. and I get deafened by a loud voice in my ear. The call routing is set to automatic.

I only ever answer calls with the earpiece but there is no selection to set this as default!

Has anyone else had this issue or has a solution?

Suggestion for Apple: This could damage hearing, why not include a selection so call routing can be defaulted to earpiece? Would make sense as I am guessing this is how the majority of calls are answered.

Hello Razd,

We see that you're having an issue with calls being sent to your speakerphone instead of coming through the earpiece. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

You've done some good troubleshooting steps already. You mentioned that you checked to be sure that call routing was set to "automatic". Next, we'd like to have you go back in to your Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing and turn off "Automatic", and then restart your iPhone. Once the phone has started back up, go back in and toggle this setting back on and test one more time.

You'll want to make sure you're using iOS version 14.4.2. Also, if you connect headphones to your iPhone, does the audio come through the speakerphone or through the headphones?

Same.issue when using charger splitter to aux and charger.

Thanks for your suggestion, I have implemented them and so far so good, though this can be quite intermittent.

Bluetooth/headphone always work faultlessly.

The only other thing I forgot to mention, is this only seems to be happen when I am sitting at the desk and pick the iPhone up from the desk to answer.

Will update in a weeks time if no further issues occur.
