Iphone 12 call forwarding won't turn off

Hello. I have an iphone 12XS Max and all calls that aren't in my contact list go straight to voicemail.

  • I can't turn the call forwarding option off - it has the spinning wheel
  • I have tried numerous times to turn phone off and on again (including the cellular/mobile settings). Toggling between airplane mode etc
  • I live in Australia and we don't have LTE options in the cellular (mobile) settings
  • I've manually turned off call forwarding options via my carrier - no use.
  • Occasionally it will turn off, but when I exit the setting and go back, the wheel keeps spinning.

Could you please assist? It's quite frustrating not receiving calls because of a setting in my phone that I can't turn off.

Thank you

Greetings Snazzzz,

We understand that you cannot disable the Call Forwarding setting in Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding causing all calls from contacts not in the Contacts app to go right to voicemail. Let’s be sure to check all other settings on this as well.

Do you have Silence Unknown Callers (Settings > Phone) or Do Not Disturb (Settings > Do Not Disturb) enabled? If so, are you able to turn them off?

Please also be sure your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version available for it. Once it is, also install any available carrier updates. You’ll find the articles below to walk you through those steps.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad

Then, please check for any third-party call Blocking or identification apps in Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification. You’ll only see that section in the Settings app if there are those apps installed. If there are, please disable the app’s features within the app, then uninstall or disable the app in Settings > Phone and test Call Forwarding again.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for responding.

Yes, I have checked phone not on silent and do not disturb. I also have the latest iOS version. I don't have any third party call blocking.

The problem seems to be the spinning wheel in Call Forwarding, I can't get to where I can turn it on/off. In a google search I've found other users have this problem. I'm really at a loss at how to fix this.

Snazzzz,

You mentioned that your iPhone was not silent, this would indicate the ring/silent switch is not an issue. Were you also able to check that Silence Unknown Callers is disabled in Settings > Phone?

What we’d like to have you do next is make sure you’re in a good coverage location, where your iPhone is receiving a strong cellular signal when you’re attempting to disable the Call Forwarding feature.

We’d also like to have you reach out to your wireless carrier and ask them to fully reprovision the call forwarding feature. This is an important step, though on the surface things may look fine, having them reprovision is a step we need to take.

If after all that, you’re still noticing an issue, please reach out to us using the following link. From there we’ll be able to continue troubleshooting the situation: Get Support

Thanks.
